What Is Wash and Fold? (And What You're Actually Paying For)

Wash and fold, also called fluff and fold, means washing, drying, and folding everyday laundry. At Freshly Folded, we collect it from your address and return it folded, with ordinary wash-and-fold items billed by the pound.

What’s different between wash and fold services is how each step is done.

At Freshly Folded, every wash and fold load includes:

  • Color and fabric sorting before any machine starts running
  • Tell us about stains before pickup so we can discuss appropriate treatment; removal is not assured.
  • Commercial Maytag and Speed Queen washers at our La Mesa facility
  • ArtiClean ozone included as part of the wash process
  • Drying based on the item’s care instructions; confirm special drying requests before booking
  • Folded by hand
  • Packaged in clean bags ready to put away

How Our Wash & Fold Service Works — 4 Steps

1. Choose your pickup window

Choose an available collection window when you schedule a wash-and-fold pickup, and add your detergent preference and access notes. Prefer to arrange laundry from your phone? Download the Freshly Folded app for iPhone or the Android app to schedule a pickup in the app. Browser booking is available too; installing the app is optional.

2. We pick up at your door

Our driver collects your bag from the agreed collection spot. Include the access instructions we need when you book, especially if your building has a gate or shared entrance.

3. We wash, dry, and fold

At our La Mesa facility, we sort the laundry, wash it with your chosen detergent and our ozone process, then dry and fold it. Confirm any item that needs special handling before sending it.

4. Next-business-day return

Standard wash-and-fold orders return the next business day after pickup in clean packaging. For dry-cleaning or mixed orders, confirm the return date before booking.

For an ordinary wash-and-fold-only order, multiply the laundry weight by your plan’s rate. If that is less than $49.99, the minimum laundry charge applies. Then add the $5.99 pickup fee, which covers collection and return.

At 20 pounds, both weekly plans reach the minimum, so the subscription does not reduce that order’s total. At 30 pounds, the subscription costs $4.20 less per pickup than standard weekly service. These are examples, not estimates of how much your household’s bag weighs.

What's Included in Wash & Fold — And What Isn't

Start with the item’s care label. Ordinary wash and fold uses machine washing and drying, so a garment that needs hand washing, flat drying, or dry cleaning needs a separate discussion. The FTC’s care-label guidance explains why washing and drying instructions both matter.
What we wash and fold:

What’s a separate service (we still pick up):

For items outside ordinary wash and fold, confirm the service, price, and return date before booking.

What we don’t accept:

✗ Hazardous items (bleach-soaked, chemical-contaminated)

✗ Items larger than commercial-machine capacity

✗ Items with delicate beadwork or hand-stitched detail that needs hand wash only

Tell us about unusual fabrics, embellishments or contamination before pickup. Confirm whether we can accept the item and which service it needs.

Choose Tide, Gain, All Free Clear, 7th Generation, or Persil. The detergent choice is included in your wash-and-fold rate.

A brand name alone does not identify every ingredient or fragrance in a formula. If you need a particular formula or want to avoid a scent, tell us what you use and confirm the option available before you book your laundry pickup. We cannot promise that a detergent will prevent a skin reaction.
