6:10 p.m. The towel bin is full and the clean shelf is empty.
Picture an independent gym as the after-work class lets out. Thirty people drop towels in the bin on the way to the locker room while the next class signs in. The desk hire is scanning key tags with one ear on the back-room dryer, which has run three times since lunch. The last load came out warm and a little damp, and a regular hands a towel back because it smells sour.
Nobody hired that person to do laundry. And the owner hears about the towels from a member before anyone on staff mentions them.
A bigger dryer rarely fixes it. A towel count does: how many go out on your busiest day, and how long each one is away before it’s back on the shelf.
Towels your gym owns
What goes in the bag, and what stays out
Everything we wash belongs to your gym. We don’t rent towels or supply replacement stock, so the towels you bought come back to your shelf.
Shower and locker-room towels
Bath towels are much heavier than sweat towels, so a few of them change the weekly weight more than the count suggests. List them on their own line.
Mat towels
Long towels for yoga, hot yoga and pilates mats, often microfiber. Send a care label with your quote request and say which classes run in a heated room.
Staff shirts
Coach and front-desk shirts can be quoted alongside the towels. List them separately with their care labels, and the quote confirms how they’re handled.
Keep these out of the towel bag
Rubber yoga mats don’t go in, because we don’t clean them. Padded equipment covers, cloths used with disinfectant or cleaning spray, and anything with blood or bodily fluids need a separate conversation before they’re booked. Check locker-room towels for razors before bagging.
A towel service doesn’t replace cleaning the equipment itself. The CDC’s guidance for athletic facilities is to clean shared equipment after each use.

At close, used towels go into tied bags that wait by the staff door or in the back room, out of the members’ path. Nothing sits in an open bin beside the check-in desk overnight.

One person hands them over in a quiet hour
Pickups run Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm and Saturday from 8am to 12pm. Choose a time inside those hours when the desk is calm, which for a gym with 6 a.m. classes might be mid-morning, and name who will be on shift. Tell us how often you need pickup; the quote confirms the schedule.

Our own team washes them
Your towels are washed by our staff, not passed to a subcontractor. Every load runs in commercial Maytag and Speed Queen machines with ArtiClean ozone, and you choose the detergent: Tide, Gain, All Free & Clear, Seventh Generation or Persil.

Folded towels come back to the same spot
Standard loads are ordinarily back the next business day; for gym volume, the quote sets the return day. The folded towels come back to the spot you agreed, and whoever works the afternoon shift restocks the rack before the evening rush.
Towels on the shelf
How many towels should a gym keep on hand?
Count towels, not members. The CDC’s advice for athletes is not to share towels and to wash and completely dry them after each use, so a member who takes a sweat towel and a shower towel has used two.
Then plan from your busiest day. A towel is out of circulation from the moment it hits the bin until it’s back on the shelf: the wait for the next pickup plus the time until it returns. For the weekly weight, weigh one full bag: step on a bathroom scale holding it, subtract your own weight and multiply by the bags you fill in a week.

Before you compare, count what the back-room washer costs
Add up the staff hours spent loading, drying and folding, the water, gas and electricity, repairs, detergent and the towels you replace. A towel rental quote is a different product: it supplies towels you don’t own on the rental company’s terms, while we wash the towels you already have.
